My Composition of 2 Genres

This project had many parts that needed revisions to fit all the given population. The central rhetoric was the wide variety of audience for the two genres: an instagram post and a cartoon. It is most common to see young adults and teens on social media nowadays spreading the message on a particular cause and also to share their lives with their significant other’s on the web. However, some of the audience the author attempted to portray the instagram post was not able to view it because they themselves don’t have an instagram account. So, the entire message of young teens being broke should switch over to EV has some advertising issues because not all teens have the resources to get the message that the vast majority are receiving. While there are many others who drive, the majority of drivers are this new generation who are recently turning 18 or 19 years old straight out of high school. Yes, the other half of drivers may be fathers, mothers, grandparents, etc. but it is a small chance that they actively use their social media accounts and talk/follow/re-post ideas or campaigns. In addition, the cartoon is able to cater to the audience of many younger and older people. This way, the author’s language is mentioned to kids in a younger generation to push their parents or guardians to switch over to EV. Depicting the EV as the bright side with the sun and the flowers, who wouldn’t want that compared to the gas – powered vehicles which fall under the dark side along with little quotes saying the many defects of a gas – powered vehicle the audience sees now a days on the streets.   The author was able to overcome this by doing both posting on social media and talking to others around him about the dilemma there is with gas-powered vehicles. This way, when one person hears, they will be able to spread it with other groups of people in conversations.

The composing process this time was much more different than completing a research essay. Here, the author was able to explore on their own and choose what is best in terms of a targeted audience who will have the most impact. The rhetorical situation focuses on young teens and the two given genres focus on young adults and others who pay attention to cartoons. In a research paper, there is a significant amount of analysis and research that is done prior to any other step of the project. However, this choice of two genres gives the audience and the author a simpler message with the same, yet larger impact due to the wide range of age groups this is reaching.

The author chose an online social media ost because it is the largest platform that includes the majority of teens to the age of infinity. The majority of people who need to be heavily influenced by driving are the new generation of kids that are just getting their licenses, along with all the other people who drive on a regular basis. New drivers are coming into college with a dream, somewhat of a debt to deal with sometimes, and on top of this, the heavy gas prices in NYC. The author’s stance stands strong with the EV because of personal experience that has put his bank account down by hundreds of dollars within only 3 months of summer vacation. Having no job and only using his previous work’s saved income, he was able to manage money for gas and other maintenance issues that came along with driving a twenty year old car with horrible gas mileage. The purpose of the cartoon is so that the kids can push their legal guardian to switch to EV after going to gas stations and smelling the horrid smell of gas.
